Overview

Mission Critical Group (MCG) is an end-to-end power systems and solutions provider that accelerates time-to-power and delivers scalable, resilient infrastructure for mission critical environments. The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for developing accurate and manufacturable designs for low- to medium-voltage switchgear, ensuring compliance with customer requirements and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Create detailed 3D models and drawings using CAD software, specifically AutoDesk Inventor.
  • Ensure designs align with manufacturability, customer specifications, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with electrical designers to integrate structural and copper bus elements into customer drawing packages.
  • Partner cross-functionally with project management, manufacturing, sales, estimating, and field service to support project execution.
  • Prepare bills of materials, assembly drawings, and cut sheets to support manufacturing.
  • Reduce cycle time by reusing or adapting existing designs.
  • Contribute to design reviews and process improvements.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level designers and engineers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of progressive mechanical design experience in switchgear or related electrical equipment manufacturing.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience with sheet metal design and structural assemblies.
  • Advanced proficiency with AutoDesk Inventor; familiarity with additional 3D CAD tools is a plus.
  • Extensive experience preparing parts lists, bills of materials, and assembly drawings.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, including sheet metal fabrication and CNC punch equipment.
  • Understanding of product lifecycle management and design for manufacturability.
  • Proven ability to lead complex mechanical design projects.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and experience with ERP/MRP systems.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced mathematical skills, including the ability to calculate proportions and tolerances.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and detail-oriented.
