Overview

The New York City Department of Transportation, Division of Bridges, is responsible for managing over 800 bridges and tunnels, ensuring public safety and mobility. The Bridge Repairer and Riveter role involves repairing and maintaining structural members of bridges, using various tools and equipment, while also overseeing construction and maintenance activities.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and maintain structural members of bridges including steel beams, columns, girders, and handrails.
  • Use power tools, cut-outs, and oxyacetylene burning equipment.
  • Erect work platforms and tie knots and splices to ring planks, beams, and equipment.
  • Prepare rough field sketches incidental to structural repairs.
  • Read blueprints and structural steel details.
  • Keep job and other records.
  • Operate motor vehicles in the performance of assigned duties.
  • May work night or weekend shifts.
  • Perform other related duties.

Requirements

  • Five years of full-time satisfactory experience as a Bridge Repairer and Riveter, outside structural or ornamental ironworker, as a boilermaker, or in a related shipbuilding trade.
  • Possession of a Class B Commercial Driver License valid in the State of New York.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form.
  • Preference for candidates who possess a valid NYS welding license.
