Overview

The Mechanic - Chiller Maintenance position at Columbia University involves providing effective maintenance and repair services to ensure the safety and functionality of building systems. The role requires a skilled individual capable of working independently on complex systems and performing various maintenance tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Provide immediate and effective response to work assigned by supervisor.
  • Ensure work is completed in a workmanship-like manner.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and safe use of equipment and tools.
  • Read blueprints, schematics, and diagrams accurately.
  • Work independently with complex building systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of daily assignments.
  • Assist in planning for maintenance repair.
  • Conduct periodic inspections of individual rooms and common areas.
  • Participate in preventive maintenance programs.
  • Order supplies according to established procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent required.
  • Three years of experience in trades and/or technical discipline.
  • Satisfactory passing of applicable tests.
  • Must have all applicable licenses and permits.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, regulations, and technical documents.
  • Ability to prepare routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to lift a maximum of 50 lbs and move heavier objects with assistance.
