Overview

The Architectural Iron Worker position at Cook County involves repairing and maintaining various items within the Cook County criminal justice system, including tools, equipment, and security systems. The role requires a skilled individual to ensure the functionality and safety of facilities such as the County Jail and Criminal Court Building.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and maintain items in the County Jail and Criminal Court Building.
  • Replace steel plates, grills, bars, armor glass, gates, and doors.
  • Maintain and repair security locks and assist the Master Locksmith.
  • Inspect and approve work done by Architectural Iron Contractors.
  • Assist in the installation, maintenance, and repair of overhead rolling shutter doors and related equipment.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of an approved Architectural Iron Worker Journeyman apprenticeship program or five years of full-time work experience as an Iron Worker.
  • Valid Certification in Welding recognized by the American Welding Society.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and blueprints.

  • Moderate to extensive travel may be required throughout Cook County.
