Overview

The Machinist position at Cook County Offices involves fabricating metal parts from blueprints and specifications under the direction of the Machinist Foreman. The role requires expertise in operating various machine tools and ensuring quality through inspection.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate metal parts using lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and hand tools.
  • Dismantle and assemble equipment as needed.
  • Install cutting tools and set machine speed and feed.
  • Inspect parts for wear, cracks, or defects and reassemble after fabrication.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Journeyman Machinist training or apprenticeship program and one year of full-time work experience as a Journeyman Machinist, or a High School Diploma/GED and five years of full-time work experience as a Machinist.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Completion of the OSHA 30-hour course in construction, safety, and health is preferred.
  • Ability to set up and perform operations on standard machine tools.
  • Knowledge of properties of various metals and methods pertinent to the Machinist's trade.
