Overview

Welcome to Ryerson, a leading provider of industrial metal products and services since 1842. As a Utility Mechanic, you will be responsible for repairing and maintaining plant equipment efficiently, contributing to a legacy of excellence in the metals industry.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and demonstrate a safe work environment
  • Comply with maintenance schedule and complete preventive maintenance programs
  • Train and supervise operators on daily maintenance tasks for equipment
  • React to unscheduled breakdowns with urgency
  • Help eliminate machine downtime
  • Coordinate outside maintenance services as required
  • Order parts as required to keep equipment operating safely and efficiently
  • Follow all Company ISO policies and procedures
  • Abide by all Company safety rules and environmental guidelines
  • Keep work areas clean and organized
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Successfully pass a skills-based assessment evaluating reading, math, inspections & measurement, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
  • Minimum 3-5 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing facility, preferably steel processing
  • Knowledge of coil processing equipment (cut-to-length & slitters)
  • Knowledge of OSHA requirements regarding equipment
  • Proficient with PLCs, electrical, mechanical, air, hydraulics & blueprints
  • Experience with preventive maintenance programs
  • Strong problem-solving skills in a fast-paced work environment
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage changing priorities and multiple tasks
  • Successful candidates will be enrolled in a registered apprenticeship program as part of their onboarding
