Overview

Wärtsilä is seeking a Senior In-Situ Machining Technician to join their global Parts and Field Service team in Houston, Texas. This permanent position involves executing advanced machining and reconditioning activities on reciprocating engine components, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards while providing technical support to junior technicians.

Responsibilities

  • Execute in-situ machining and reconditioning activities on reciprocating engine components.
  • Travel to customer locations to perform machining, repair, and reconditioning services.
  • Lead field machining activities and support successful project execution.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and customers to ensure project completion.
  • Maintain, inspect, and ensure operational readiness of machining equipment.
  • Prepare and submit accurate technical reports and service documentation.
  • Collect and process time sheets, expenses, and service-related documentation.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior technicians.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety and efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with Wärtsilä Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, technical certification, or vocational training in Machining or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in in-situ machining or field machining services.
  • Demonstrated experience machining and reconditioning reciprocating engine components.
  • Strong knowledge of portable machining equipment and precision measurement tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Experience troubleshooting machining equipment in the field.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Commitment to high standards of safety and quality.
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively to customer locations.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Proficiency in English, both written and verbal.

Additional Information

  • Position requires 75 - 80% travel commitment, including domestic and international locations.
  • Successful applicants must be authorized to work in the US.
