Overview

The Materials Testing Technician position is a hands-on laboratory role focused on preparing, testing, and analyzing materials for aerospace and defense applications. The role involves using specialized laboratory equipment to evaluate material performance and requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare materials for testing through sectioning, mounting, grinding, polishing, and etching.
  • Conduct mechanical testing on metals, composites, elastomers, and other materials.
  • Support materials analysis using SEM/EDS, FTIR, and thermal analysis equipment.
  • Operate mechanical testing equipment and load frames.
  • Record test data and communicate findings to engineering teams.
  • Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
  • Perform testing in accordance with ASTM standards and established procedures.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in a materials characterization or mechanical testing laboratory.
  • Experience preparing material samples and/or conducting mechanical testing.
  • Experience working with laboratory testing or characterization equipment.
  • Ability to follow technical procedures, engineering drawings, and instructions.
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance if required during the contract.
