Overview
The Welder position involves joining metals using GTAW and GMAW welding processes and cutting metals with Oxy-Fuel or plasma Arc cutting equipment. Candidates must be proficient in welding thin gage aluminum and capable of passing various welding tests according to AWS codes and Military Standards.
Responsibilities
- Receive instructions verbally or from job cards and/or detailed prints.
- Perform up to three types of welding processes, including GMAW & GTAW.
- Read and understand blueprints and associated welding symbols.
- Weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions.
- Assist with and/or construct welding jigs and fixtures.
- Select proper welding parameters and electrodes/filler metals.
- Perform tack welding and use Oxygen/Fuel torch for heating and cutting.
- Chip, grind, and clean welds as necessary.
- Perform tasks associated with welding, such as joining preparation and inspection of completed welds.
- Check work using test equipment.
- Aid in designing and debugging new welding fixtures.
- Safely operate overhead cranes and hoists.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 2+ years minimum related experience.
- Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information.
- Ability to interact effectively with peers and supervisors.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- Basic computer skills required.
