Overview

The Facilities Mechanic performs maintenance and repair of the facility's structure, equipment, and grounds with a focus on commercial carpentry. The role involves working alongside skilled tradespersons in a supportive function for approximately 800 employees across two locations in New Jersey.

Responsibilities

  • Installs and maintains a wide variety of pumps, blowers, motors, and other mechanical equipment such as HVAC systems.
  • Assembles and repairs mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems.
  • Performs a wide variety of carpentry, plumbing, and light electrical work.
  • Executes routine preventive maintenance to ensure that building systems continue to run effectively and efficiently.
  • Works from written and verbal instructions.
  • Follows all applicable safety rules and procedures.
  • Works from blueprints, equipment drawings, and schematics.
  • Plans complex jobs, selects materials and equipment for proper completion.
  • Utilizes computerized preventive maintenance schedule.
  • Records and logs work performed.
  • Repairs or replaces defective equipment parts using hand tools and power tools.
  • May be required to clean and service equipment that may contain hazardous substances.
  • Operates forklift to move materials and equipment.
  • May participate on special teams, including snow removal and emergency response.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.

Requirements

  • High School or Trade School diploma or its equivalent.
  • At least three (3) years of general maintenance experience.
  • Ability to walk, bend, stoop, balance, crawl, and reach for extended periods of time.
  • Lift 35+ pounds.
  • Must be comfortable with and capable of occasionally working at heights.
  • Work independently without direct supervision.
  • Knowledge of Maximo or other CMMS software and MS Office suites is preferred.
  • Ability to acquire a government clearance is preferred.
  • Strong background in commercial carpentry with working knowledge of various systems.
