Overview

Become a Welder with the Department of Transportation, Westmoreland County Maintenance Organization and bring your hands-on skill to a mission that matters. You will contribute to strong, safe structures and dependable equipment that keep our roads moving.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and fit various metals for welding by cleaning, heating, and shaping materials.
  • Perform welding and cutting tasks on bridges, vehicle bodies, engine parts, and related equipment.
  • Create and repair components for plow frames, blades, spreaders, and other transportation equipment.
  • Operate power and air tools including drills, saws, presses, and compressors to support welding and fabrication tasks.
  • Use motorized equipment such as forklifts, pick-up trucks, and bucket trucks during fabrication and welding assignments.
  • Maintain a safe work area and follow all safety rules, procedures, and reporting requirements.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience in the operation and use of welding equipment, materials, and related shop equipment to repair, maintain, or fabricate parts, equipment, or structures.
  • Completion of a three-year, high school Vo-Tech training program in welding and eighteen months of experience in the operation and use of welding equipment, materials, and related shop equipment.
  • Completion of an approved welder apprentice program.
  • A welding certificate D1.1 from the American Welding Society.
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Possession of an active Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions.

Additional Information

  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.
