Overview

The Materials Special Inspector (Eng Tech III) is responsible for field and laboratory testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials. The role involves communication with various stakeholders, data reporting, and adherence to safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field and laboratory testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials.
  • Communicate with project manager, engineering technicians, client representatives, and contractors regarding project requirements.
  • Transport material samples to the laboratory for further testing and analysis.
  • Prepare and submit data and observations in written and digital reports.
  • Maintain and clean equipment, vehicles, and work areas.
  • Assist with scheduling and dispatch of technicians to project sites.
  • Adhere to strict safety standards.
  • Provide clear documentation of findings and results.
  • Perform basic analysis of data to verify accuracy before communication.
  • Train lower level technicians and lead activities of other engineering technicians.
  • Maintain equipment and calibration.

Requirements

  • Preferred: NICET Level II certification in Construction Materials Testing in categories like Asphalt, Concrete, Soils.
  • Preferred: NICET Level II certification in Geotechnical in categories like Construction, Laboratory, Exploration.
  • Preferred: ICC certification in categories like Reinforced Concrete, Structural Steel.
  • Preferred: AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI).
  • Preferred: ASNT Level II certification in multiple testing areas.
  • Required: ACI certification in Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I or Concrete Strength Testing Technician.
  • Required: Certification in radiation safety and Nuclear Density Gauge operation.
  • Required: Successful completion of related internal safety certifications.
