Overview

The Materials Special Inspector (Eng Tech IV) is responsible for performing field and laboratory testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials. This role involves communication with various stakeholders, data documentation, and adherence to safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field and laboratory testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials.
  • Communicate with project manager, engineering technicians, and client representatives regarding project requirements.
  • Transport material samples to the laboratory for further testing and analysis.
  • Prepare and submit data and observations in written and digital reports.
  • Maintain and clean equipment, vehicles, and work areas.
  • Assist with scheduling and dispatch of technicians to project sites.
  • Provide clear documentation of findings and results.
  • Perform basic analysis of data to verify accuracy before communication.
  • Train lower level technicians.
  • May direct and supervise activities of other engineering technicians.
  • Track projects in the Construction Materials and Laboratory Management System (CMELMS).
  • Communicate with clients about project timelines and status.
  • Follow safety rules and practices and report safety issues.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5-10 years of relevant experience or equivalent training.
  • Experience with laptop computer use and Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • A valid driver's license with acceptable violation history may be required.
  • ACI certification in Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I or Concrete Strength Testing Technician.
  • Certified in radiation safety and Nuclear Density Gauge operation.
