Overview

The New York City Department of Transportation, Division of Bridges is seeking a qualified Oiler to manage the lubrication, maintenance, and repair of mechanical equipment related to the operation of bridges and tunnels. Candidates must be either permanently serving in the title or reachable on the open-competitive list.

Responsibilities

  • Lubricate and clean pumps, compressors, motors, gears, ejectors, and other operational equipment.
  • Read meters and gauges.
  • Assist in the operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment.
  • Keep logs of maintenance activities.
  • Operate lubricant filtering and purifying equipment.
  • Maintain lubricant inventory.
  • Perform related work as required.
  • May be required to work a night shift.
  • Engage in physical activities such as climbing stairs and ladders, walking over wet surfaces, and lifting objects up to 60 pounds.

Requirements

  • Three years of full-time satisfactory experience in the lubrication, maintenance, and repair of mechanical equipment.
  • One and one-half years of experience plus graduation from an approved trade, technical, or vocational high school or completion of an approved internship program.
  • One year of experience plus an associate degree from an accredited school in mechanical technology.
  • Experience working on bridge structures is preferred.

  • Work hours are 40 hours per week from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
  • New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.
