Overview

Middlesex Water Company is seeking a Collection System Worker II to perform maintenance, operational, and repair tasks within the City of Perth Amboy's wastewater collection system and pump stations. Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance, operational, and repair tasks in the wastewater collection system and pump stations.
  • Clean wastewater collection systems, storm drains, flood control facilities, and inlets.
  • Assist in operating hydro cleaners and sewer vacuum trucks to flush systems and open clogs.
  • Inspect pump stations and remove debris.
  • Operate construction equipment including air compressors and jack hammers.
  • Learn the limits of the collection and distribution systems and read maps.
  • Perform line locating and marking throughout the City.
  • Conduct traffic control in high traffic areas and install street barricades.
  • Assist in raising manholes and repairing sewer manholes.
  • Maintain company assigned vehicles in a clean and safe condition.
  • Communicate courteously with employees, customers, and the public.
  • Attend training and safety meetings as necessary.
  • Work unscheduled overtime as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and maintain productivity and safety.
  • Ability to maintain a valid NJ driver's license.
  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or ability to obtain one within six months.
  • Availability to work overtime on an emergency and/or call-in basis.
  • Willingness to work outdoors year-round.
  • Ability to work scheduled standby year-round.
  • Excellent attendance record.
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English.
  • Ability to speak and understand Spanish is desirable but not required.
