Overview

The Correctional Officer/Physical Plant Maintenance Trades Mechanic I position involves performing basic repairs and routine preventative maintenance at a semi-skilled level across various trade fields within a correctional facility. The role includes supervising inmate work crews and maintaining security of tools and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and preventative maintenance on equipment and facility interiors and exteriors.
  • Conduct minor repairs in plumbing, painting, carpentry, and other trade areas.
  • Assist in machinery and equipment repair.
  • Support groundkeeping activities, including snow/ice removal and trash removal.
  • Assist technical supervisor in plumbing and building repairs as needed.
  • Operate machinery and vehicles, transporting tools and materials.
  • Supervise an inmate work crew, ensuring security and proper tool management.

Requirements

  • Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 19 and 1/2 years of age.
  • Knowledge of operating and maintaining various equipment and tools in trades fields.
  • Experience in plumbing, carpentry, painting, or HVAC.
  • Possession of a valid Driver’s License.

Additional Information

  • Annual base starting salary is $55,421.21, increasing to $65,538.00 after completing training.
  • Eligible for a 5% shift differential for working late hours.
  • Must complete an eleven-week Correctional Officer Basic Course before institutional assignment.
