Overview

The Piping Stress Engineer 3 position at Sargent & Lundy involves providing technical support for piping engineering and analysis in nuclear settings, focusing on evaluations in accordance with various ASME codes. The role includes responsibilities such as preparing calculations, specifications, and designs, while working in a hybrid schedule that requires in-office presence three days a week.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares complex calculations and reviews simple calculations.
  • Reviews simple system/structural designs.
  • Prepares documented design input for drawing production under supervision.
  • Prepares specifications for balance of plant equipment.
  • Prepares bid evaluations for single components and calculations for economic evaluations.
  • Prepares simple reports/studies.
  • Provides input to project budgets, schedules, and work plans.
  • Monitors own work to ensure completion within budget and schedule.
  • Uses effective communication skills to convey information to project team members and managers.
  • Communicates with vendors via clear specifications.
  • Applies accepted standards and processes to assigned project tasks.
  • Completes work assignments within established schedule.
  • May mentor entry-level engineers.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Aerospace, or Structural/Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 3 or more years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of ASME B31.1 and ASME B&PV Section III piping codes.
  • Knowledge of the design, selection, and application of pipe supporting elements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
