Job Description

Overview

The Production Helper is responsible for assisting workers engaged in the fabrication of structural or metal products by performing several support duties and tasks. The ideal candidate should have a high school diploma or equivalent and some experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the steel industry.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain performance standards and meet production and quality expectations.
  • Lift, position, and remove workpieces from machines to assist in fitting and welding.
  • Load, stack, and transport stock, tools, dies, and work in process by hand or truck.
  • Clean and scrape metal being prepared for fabrication, welding, painting, or shipping.
  • Pick up scraps from work areas and load and unload trucks.
  • Grind burrs from holes on various parts and sharp corners from material.
  • Assist fellow employees as directed and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 3-6 months experience in a manufacturing plant or warehouse.
  • Experience in the steel industry and/or galvanizing is a plus.
  • Ability to be forklift and overhead crane certified.
  • Knowledge of electric and pneumatic hand tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Effective communication skills in English, both reading and writing.
  • Good attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to work required overtime.

  • Current shifts are Monday - Friday, 5:00 AM - 3:30 PM with Saturday as needed.
  • Maximum shop exposure and exposure to extreme temperatures.
