Overview

Electric Boat is overseeing the construction of the Integrated Propulsion System (IPS) Motor Module for future COLUMBIA Class Submarines at a vendor site in Philadelphia, PA. The D489 CLB Propulsion Engineering team is seeking experienced candidates to support construction and testing of IPS components.

Responsibilities

  • Provide design and deck plate support for main propulsion system equipment during motor module construction.
  • Support pre-production equipment and components during motor module test programs as needed.
  • Determine the root cause of IPS issues and correct deficiencies to minimize construction interruptions.
  • Perform surveillances of work being performed under area of cognizance.
  • Act as a primary Electric Boat contact for on-site IPS component suppliers.
  • Support development of IPS engineering directions.
  • Assist with issue resolution of COLUMBIA specific equipment at other locations.
  • Support construction activities and shipboard integration at Electric Boat manufacturing facilities.
  • Gather data to support development of COLUMBIA IPS design and documentation improvements.
  • Interface with technical and management personnel at NAVSEA, NNL, NSWC, and vendors.
  • Support IPS test programs as applicable.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in engineering or related technical field is required.
  • 0 – 1 years of post-graduate engineering experience is required.
  • Masters of Science or Engineering degree is preferred.
  • 1 - 5 years of COLUMBIA or VA engineering experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of COLUMBIA IPS component and system designs is preferred.
  • Prior experience supporting COLUMBIA IPS component work is preferred.
  • Experience working with NAVSEA/NNL is preferred.
  • Multi-disciplinary systems engineering experience is preferred.
  • Experience with MIL Standards is preferred.
  • Experience in control systems, power electronics, or thermal analysis is preferred.
  • Experience supporting deck plate work evolutions is preferred.

Additional Information

  • The position is permanent and onsite in Philadelphia, PA.
  • Candidates will complete a 3 to 6 month training rotation in New London, CT.
  • Internal transfers will receive a relocation package and a 15% site differential bonus.
  • The position supports 16/5 up to 24/7 construction and testing as required.
