Overview

Arizona State University (ASU) is seeking a Utility Piping Specialist to assist with steam infrastructure and the installation, repair, and maintenance of plumbing systems. This role requires expertise in utility piping systems and is based at the Tempe campus, with potential work at other ASU locations.

Responsibilities

  • Install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems, including complex work related to utility piping systems.
  • Locate, repair, and replace malfunctioning parts using hand and power tools.
  • Inspect mechanical system components and use soldering and brazing tools for precision work.
  • Work with drawings and specifications.
  • Install and maintain sprinkler systems.
  • Install and repair water lines and drain lines.
  • Prioritize work based on critical needs assessment.
  • Assist other trades as needed.
  • Communicate clearly to perform essential functions.
  • Use electronic work order systems to coordinate assigned tasks.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and three years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Three years of plumbing and/or mechanical-pipefitting systems experience, or completion of a four-year federally approved technical training program in plumbing.
  • Experience studying plans, drawings, specifications, and work orders.
  • Knowledge of welding standards as defined by current trade practice.
  • Ability to use electronic work order systems to track maintenance tasks.
  • Knowledge of mechanical operation of equipment such as pumps, boilers, cooling towers, and chillers.
  • Familiarity with tools, equipment, and materials common to plumbing and welding trades.
  • Understanding of applicable codes related to plumbing and utility piping systems.

Additional Information

  • Work schedule is Monday – Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm.
  • Position requires working a rotating on-call/stand-by schedule.
  • Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
  • Position may require travel throughout campus to various research buildings.
