Overview

At Lockheed Martin, the Accelerated Materials & Product Development (AMPD) team is focused on innovation in advanced materials and manufacturing for aerospace and defense applications. The Experimental Machinist role involves assisting engineers in the fabrication and testing of prototype structures and electronics.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate prototype and conceptual components with minimal supervision.
  • Follow instructions and documents to determine equipment and material needs.
  • Perform experiments under engineers’ direction using hand and machine tools.
  • Make calculations, record data, and maintain records using computerized equipment.
  • Modify fixtures and lab equipment as directed and suggest process improvements.
  • Write process instructions and summary reports on experimental work.
  • Correct discrepancies using engineering drawings and other documents.
  • Prepare and use manufacturing planning and technical data for repairs and modifications.

Requirements

  • Ability to read blueprints/manuals and proficiency with tools.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to collaborate with different engineering groups.
  • Experience with composite materials and advanced manufacturing techniques.
  • Proficiency with hand and machine tools and process documentation.
  • Ability to apply material specific welding techniques.
  • Capability to make acceptable welds in various positions.
