Overview

The Plumber A position involves maintaining, repairing, installing, and replacing various plumbing systems, including water, gas, steam, and drainage systems, while adhering to established procedures. The role requires availability for emergency situations, including weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains, repairs, installs and replaces water, gas, steam, air and medical gas and drainage systems.
  • Threads, solders, fits and welds pipes.
  • Installs, connects, repairs and replaces pipes.
  • Assembles plumbing fixtures such as sinks, toilets, showers and water heaters.
  • Maintains fire systems, checking sprinklers and standpipes.
  • Fits gaskets, seals joints, and makes connections using weld, solder, nuts and bolts.
  • Repairs autoclaves, sterilizing equipment and distilled water units.
  • Paints, plasters or replaces tile and floor boards when necessary.
  • Maintains cleanliness of all equipment and shop.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Vocational high school graduate with 2 years plumbing courses or equivalent required.
  • G38 Torch use of O-2 COMB GAS Certificate required.
  • Burning and Welding Certificate required.
  • Minimum of two years general experience as plumber or steamfitter required.
  • Knowledge of shop tools, pipe threading, electric drills, rotary hammers required.
  • Ability to interpret building and plumbing codes.
  • Ability to read blueprints and schematics in accordance with NYC Code.
  • Working knowledge of all building, grounds, facilities and department work areas required.
  • Computer literacy preferred.
  • Experience working in a Hospital / Healthcare setting strongly preferred.

Additional Information

  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays and other shifts in the event of emergency.
