Overview

The City of Philadelphia is seeking a Machinery and Equipment Mechanic 1 to perform skilled mechanical work at an intermediate level in the maintenance and repair of various mechanical equipment across city facilities. This role offers an opportunity to grow within a vibrant and inclusive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and repair of machinery and related equipment including generators, motors, pumps, compressors, fans, and valves.
  • Conduct basic trades tasks such as routine plumbing and electrical work.
  • Gain experience and learn progressively more difficult mechanical maintenance and repair work.
  • Work under the supervision of a technical supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Two years of experience learning to maintain and repair machinery and mechanical equipment in a large industrial facility as a helper.
  • Completion of a post high school mechanical trade program at an accredited vocational technical institute, trades school or college in a related field meets all requirements.
  • Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Additional Information

  • Philadelphia residency is not required to submit an application, but applicants must have established bona fide residency in the City of Philadelphia for one year prior to appointment.
  • Candidates who pass the exam will be retained on the civil service list for a minimum of one year and a maximum of two years.
