Overview

Peak Utility Services Group is an integrated group of engineering and construction companies serving the Electric, Natural Gas and Telecommunications industry, providing a full suite of services including repair, replacement, maintenance, and installation of infrastructure through various subsidiaries. The Welder I position involves performing welding tasks in various positions and ensuring safety and quality in construction environments.

Responsibilities

  • Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
  • Works with specialized equipment including welding and other necessary tools.
  • Works safely around backhoes, excavators, trenchers and dump trucks.
  • Cleans and prepares construction sites to eliminate possible hazards.
  • Lays out, positions, aligns, and secures parts and assemblies prior to assembly.
  • Examines workpieces for defects and measures work pieces to ensure conformance with specifications.
  • Clamps, holds, tack-welds, heat-bends, grinds or bolts component parts.
  • Selects and installs torches, torch tips, filler rods, and flux according to specifications.
  • Determines required equipment and welding methods applying knowledge of metallurgy and welding techniques.
  • Monitors the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts.
  • Analyzes engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and sketches to plan operations.
  • Marks or tags material with proper job number and identifying marks.
  • Prepares all material surfaces to be welded, ensuring cleanliness.
  • Preheats work pieces using torches and guides flames or electrodes for connection.
  • Detects faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notifies supervisors.
  • Cleans or degreases parts using wire brushes and portable grinders.
  • Sets up and uses ladders and shoring as necessary.
  • Uses fire suppression methods in industrial emergencies.
  • Cleans, checks fluid levels, and conducts visual inspections of vehicle/equipment.
  • Operates truck in compliance with safety regulations.
  • Maintains paperwork including DVIR and driver’s log book.
