Overview

The Fabricator - Structural Steel & Sheet Metal role involves welding and assembling structural components and complete assemblies, utilizing various tools and machines. Multi-Craft Contractors (MCC) has been providing industrial and commercial services since 1972, executing turnkey projects from concept to completion.

Responsibilities

  • Layout, position, align, and secure parts as individual structural components and complete assemblies.
  • Align and fit parts according to specifications using clamps, wedges, and other tools.
  • Weld to form complete units or subunits following blueprints and layout specifications.
  • Set up and operate fabrication machines to bend, cut, form, punch, and drill metal components.
  • Weld components in flat, vertical, and overhead positions as necessary.
  • Weld using aluminum, stainless steel, carbon steel, and other alloys.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Strong mathematical skills and competency in fractions and decimals.
  • Proficient at reading a tape measure and angle finders.
  • Proficiency in MIG (GMAW), TIG (GTAW), and Stick (SMAW) welding.
  • Working knowledge of heat-related stresses and warping properties.
  • Ability to calculate metal stretch-outs and circumferences.
  • Knowledge of deburring, grinding, finishing, and polishing of fabricated items.
  • Understanding of cuts, copes, miters, takeoffs, and allowances.
  • Familiarity with stair runs and risers in relation to design and structural platforms.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and ergonomics related to stairs and platform applications.
  • A current valid driver’s license is required.

What you'll be running

This posting calls for MIG, TIG, and Stick work. MIG (GMAW) feeds a continuous wire electrode through a shielding-gas nozzle. TIG (GTAW) uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode with filler added by hand, giving the operator the most control of any process. It is slow, demanding, and the standard for stainless, aluminum, and anything where the bead has to look as good as it holds.
