Overview

The Boiler Operator position at Villanova University involves the operation, maintenance, and service of boilers and auxiliary equipment for high-pressure steam generation. Responsibilities

  • Conducts burner firing operation plus auxiliary systems for all boilers.
  • Checks water softeners for correct operation and needed services.
  • Maintains steam plant in clean condition as to oil spillage and general cleaning and appearance.
  • Maintains proper records for all logs and reports required.
  • Operates, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs high pressure steam systems and auxiliary equipment.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs steam devices including electronic, electrical, and mechanical components.
  • Operates and keeps in good working order a variety of equipment including hand tools and diagnostic instruments.
  • Reads and interprets basic blueprints, sketches, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Performs soldering and pipefitting as required.
  • Coordinates repairs with other trades affected by the steam operations.
  • Monitors, controls, and maintains boiler operations through SCADA system.
  • Performs and assists with all chemical treatment including testing, mixing, and loading of chemicals.

Requirements

  • HS diploma or equivalent and current documentation of formal training in high pressure steam systems.
  • At least two years of work experience in a high-pressure steam plant operation.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written directions in English.
  • Ability to interact professionally with students, faculty, administration, and staff.
  • Ability to read and understand OSHA guidelines and safety data sheets.
  • Physical ability to climb ladders, bend, reach, crawl, and lift up to 60 lbs.
  • Ability to work in enclosed spaces as per OSHA guidelines.
  • Experience in preventative maintenance procedures and repair of gas, water, electrical, and life safety systems.
  • Basic Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Outlook skills.
  • Must not have any disciplinary actions on file within the previous twelve months.
  • Ability to erect and work on scaffolding as per OSHA standards.
  • Must have an excellent safety record.
