Overview

The Machinist position at the NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) involves working under general supervision to operate and maintain machine shop equipment and perform mechanical repairs. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, dedicated to enriching the environment and protecting public health for all New Yorkers.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, fabricate necessary parts and perform mechanical repairs on all systems-related equipment.
  • Install and align mechanical equipment.
  • Keep records and inventories.
  • Supervise others.

Requirements

  • Five years of full-time satisfactory experience as a machinist; or
  • At least two and one-half years of full-time satisfactory experience as a machinist plus sufficient experience as a machinist helper or an apprentice machinist.
  • Machinist knowledge/skills.
  • Safety knowledge.
  • Use of machine shop equipment and related hand tools.
