Overview

For over 100 years, Maguire has been an industry leader in the fabrication, construction, and maintenance of water storage tanks and elevated water towers. The Foreman: Field Maintenance/Repair Welder will ensure safety and lead a team in performing welding and repair tasks while traveling for work.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all work is performed with safety as the number one priority.
  • Install and check performance/safety rigging before each use.
  • Interpret specifications and communicate discrepancies to project managers.
  • Repair and fabricate items using SMAW and some flux-core welding.
  • Examine work pieces for defects and ensure conformance with specifications.
  • Correct malformation in parts and bends in metal work pieces.
  • Use painting, cutting, and welding equipment effectively.
  • Lead the team to complete work on time with strong time management skills.
  • Motivate and encourage others to work safely and productively.
  • Maintain all equipment and service equipment as needed.
  • Complete daily production paperwork and review crew’s timecards.
  • Lead weekly safety toolbox meetings.
  • Interact with customers during field work and gather sign-off on documentation.
  • Lead field team assistants to perform required scope in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Completion of a formal apprenticeship, technical or welding degree preferred.
  • 3 years of welding experience preferred or a combination of schooling and experience.
  • Previous experience in water tank repair preferred.
  • Must be able to pass a company weld test (SMAW required).
  • Ability to travel frequently for work assignments.
  • Minimum age requirement of 21 for driving responsibilities.
  • Valid driver’s license is required.
  • Must be able to obtain a Medical DOT Certificate; Class A CDL preferred.
  • OSHA 10 and CPR certification or ability to obtain them.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in written form.

Additional Information

  • Majority of the time is spent in the field and will work in unfavorable weather conditions.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Requires specific vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision.

What you'll be running

This posting calls for Stick and Flux-Core work. Stick (SMAW) burns a flux-coated consumable rod and needs no shielding gas, so it works in wind, rain, and on dirty or rusted steel. That tolerance for bad conditions keeps it the default for field, structural, and repair work. Flux-cored (FCAW) runs a hollow wire filled with flux, combining MIG-like deposition rates with the outdoor tolerance of stick. It is the workhorse on heavy structural steel and shipbuilding, where thick sections and long welds reward speed.
