Overview

The City of New York is seeking a skilled Electrician to join the Division of Traffic Operations within the Electrical Operations Unit. This role involves installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems that support public transit and street infrastructure, contributing to the overall mobility improvements for New Yorkers.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring systems, traffic signals, surveillance cameras, and related equipment.
  • Conduct diagnostic tests to identify faults and perform necessary repairs on existing installations.
  • Serve as a field representative to resolve construction-related electrical issues.
  • Collaborate with contractors on large-scale projects, documenting construction processes.
  • Interpret specifications to order electrical equipment and supplies.

Requirements

  • Must be serving permanently in the title of Electrician or have passed the Open Competitive Electrician Exam #3029.
  • Five years of full-time satisfactory experience as an electrician, or three years plus relevant education or experience as an electrician's helper.
  • Knowledge of fiber testing and splicing equipment.
  • Experience with outside plant work, including cable splicing and pulling.
  • Certification in fiber optic splicing is preferred.
  • Experience with large data center HVAC systems operation and maintenance.
  • Journeyman level experience with data center electrical systems.
  • Experience with Traffic Signal Maintenance and Construction.

Additional Information

  • Some assignments may require a driver's license valid in the state of New York.
  • New hires must reside in NYC for the first two years of employment.
  • This position is open to qualified persons with a disability under the 55-a program.
