Overview

We are searching for an Automation and Robotics Engineer to support the physical execution layer of the future discovery automation environment, ensuring that laboratory automation scientists can implement validated scientific workflows reliably.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with configuration, assembly, testing, and deployment of automated laboratory modules and robotic devices.
  • Support development and review of basic engineering documentation such as layouts and equipment lists.
  • Participate in FAT, SAT, UAT, installation checks, and physical transfer testing.
  • Verify that equipment is accessible for operation, calibration, and normal laboratory use.
  • Perform initial troubleshooting of mechanical and robotic issues using defined procedures.
  • Document physical faults and recovery actions clearly for senior engineers and laboratory automation scientists.
  • Support small improvements in equipment layout and physical transfer reliability.
  • Collect observations on equipment uptime and recurring interventions.
  • Apply basic robot safety and laboratory safety during testing and support activities.
  • Support checks related to emergency stops, guarding, and safe access.
  • Work with laboratory automation scientists to understand equipment behavior effects.
  • Advance equipment, safety, facility, or compliance concerns early.
  • Support technology evaluations and contribute to engineering standards.
  • Participate in lessons learned and continuous improvement activities.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field is required.
  • 1+ years of relevant experience in robotics, automation, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated understanding of robotics, automation, and electromechanical systems.
  • Ability to work with laboratory automation scientists to translate workflow constraints.
  • Working knowledge of technical documentation and engineering records.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Awareness of EHS, biosafety, and operational readiness expectations.

  • Travel may be required for vendor assessments and site visits.
