Overview

The General Maintenance Mechanic position at Seton Hall University involves performing routine maintenance and minor repairs primarily in electrical and plumbing systems across various locations in Newark, NJ. The role requires proficiency in common trades and adherence to safety procedures while ensuring compliance with local building and safety codes.

Responsibilities

  • Repairs and replaces faucets, sinks, urinals, toilets, pumps, valves, water lines, and unclogs sanitary drains.
  • Conducts wall repair and painting, prepares estimates and bills of materials, and orders materials for tasks.
  • Assists with repairs to kitchen equipment.
  • Repairs, installs, replaces, and tests electrical circuits, panels, and fixtures using hand tools and electrical testing equipment.
  • Re-lamps lighting fixtures, replaces lens covers, and replaces batteries in smoke detectors.
  • Assists with boiler operation and change over.
  • Repairs and replaces blinds and ceiling tiles.
  • Mounts pictures, bulletin boards, plaques, and clocks.
  • Assists with moving furniture and office contents when required.
  • Cleans up all work areas after task completion.
  • Performs all work with adherence to safety procedures and inspects completed work.
  • Documents hours and materials expended through an automated work order system.
  • Reports deficiencies beyond responsibility on work orders for other trades.
  • Routinely lifts material weighing more than 20 pounds and works off ladders and scaffolding frequently.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or Local 68 Apprenticeship Graduate or attendee.
  • Possess Type I CFC certificate.
  • Possess valid NJ driver's license.
  • Knowledge of all common trades and ability to apply this to maintenance and repair.
  • Black Seal License.

Additional Information

  • Position mainly located at Seton Hall University School of Law in Newark, NJ.
  • Assists at Gateway Center location in Newark, NJ and South Orange Campus when required.
  • During heating season, works from 3 to 11:30 M-F and participates in an OT rotation every other weekend.
